Meet the Artist – Marion Jones
Tell us a little about you?
Have been painting for last 20 years in a studio in Camberwell and now have a studio at home. Have shown in a variety of venues and galleries and have pictures in a number of private collections.
What inspires you / influences your work?
Structure and form and a close examination of textures and surfaces.
How did you come to be doing this type of work?
I take motives from previous paintings and build up layers using a variety of painting and printing techniques.
Where did you train / develop your work?
At Chelsea and Camberwell.
Who is favourite artist / art work and why?
Raoul De Keyser, Philip Guston, Robert Ryman, David Reed and Malevitch. All artists who are interested in how paint works and how the viewer relates to the picture.
What new projects do you have planned next?
Have been working on a series of paintings that relate in a way to a passage in Ulysses –‘The trees of all Ireland’.
And finally, do you have any exhibitions planned?
In The Dartmouth Arms and The Duke in SE London in November until early Dec.
